A vinyl cutter is a computer- operated machine. Small vinyl cutters look very similar to a desktop printer. A computer controls the blade in the vinyl cutter the same way a printer controls a nozzle. A computer equipped with a vector drawing software will create a vector- based image and then send the design it created to the cutter. The cutter will then cut the the programmed design from a vinyl sheet. Cutters have the capability to move the blade on an X,Y axis allowing the blade to cut any design desired by the computer operator. In order for the cutter to receive the design it must be connected directly to the computer via USB, serial cable or it can be sent to the cutter wirelessly using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Vinyl cutters are used to make advertisement, signs and banners The vinyl blades can also cut computer paper, specialty paper and thin magnet sheets.
